The main feature of this season’s birdwatching is the bird migration. Throughout the Autumn (October and November) huge flocks of geese and Common Cranes are arriving. After long or short stays, they may migrate to the south or spend the cold and harsh winter here with us. Tens of thousands of geese and ducks are very attractive prey for the raptors: White-tailed Eagles and Peregrines are appearing around them.

The cost of this trip is 300000 HUF/person. It is included: transfer from and back to the airport, accommodation, guiding, entrance fees, food, all travel and fuel during the trips. It doesn’t include insurance, air tickets and alkoholic beverages.
We will meet you at Budapest Airport and after a two-hour transfer, we will arrive at your accommodation in Kisújszállás. If time allows after your arrival, we will take a walk in the town and the surrounding area of your accommodation. Birds during this short walk often include Syrian Woodpecker, Long-eared Owl and Hawfinch.
We will visit two big fishpond systems, which are playing a major role in the autumn bird migration. We are going to observe the gathering flocks of ducks and geese. On the fishponds Greylag and White-fronted geese are swimming in the mixed flocks. On the fishponds Black-nacked Grebe and gulls are swimming alongside the Mallards, Pochards, Pintail, Wigeon, Gadwall and Showelers, but among the flocks of ducks and geese we can usually find rare birds such as: Lesser white-fronted, Red-breasted Geese. These tens of thousands of geese and ducks are very attractive prey for the White-tailed Eagles and Perigrine. Penduline and Bearded tits can be spotted everywhere in the reedbeds. On the nearby Puszta Hen Harriers, Rough-legged Buzzards and Great Grey Shrikes are looking for prey. In the sky flocks of Common Cranes are flying towards the south. If we are lucky we will see Great Bustards and Whooper Swans too.
Today we are going to explore the biggest reservoir in our local area. The Lake – Tisza is a meeting point for thousands of geese and ducks. Among the ducks we will find Mallards, Pochards, Wigeons, Gadwalls and Showelers. The great flocks of geese mainly consist of Greylag and White-fronted Geese, but among the flocks of ducks and geese we can usually find rare birds such as: Lesser white-fronted, Red-breasted Geese and Long-tailed Ducks as well. There are also good chance to observe velvet and common scoter, divers and Slavonian grebe.
We will visit the world-famous Hungarian Puszta. We will explore the area and observe the flocks of Great Bustards. During our birdwatching, we are most likely to meet with Common Cranes, Hen Harriers, Imperial and White-tailed Eagles. On the Puszta, Buzzards, Rough-legged Buzzards, Peregrines and Merlins are looking for prey. With a bit of luck Sakers, Short-eared Owls can be seen as well. Before dinner, we take a short walk to see the main local roosting place for the Long-eared Owl, where at this time of the year there are around one hundred birds to a flock.
We will explore the biggest quarry in the Northeast Hungarian Mountains. Here we look for Wallcreeper. In the nearby forest we can admire Bullfinch, Brambling, White backed, Grey and Middle spotted woodpeckers. In the Szalajka walley we will look for Dipper. We can spot the Black, Syrian, Green,White backed, Great and Lesser Spotted woodpeckers. If we are lucky, during our tour we will see one or two of the Ring Ouzel, Redstart and Crossbill too. If we are lucky we may find one or two of the Eagle owl, Ural Owl. In the evening we will test a selection of the Hungarian wines. (evening in a local guesthouse near Eger)
In the morning we will bird watch in the Bükk mountain. We visit the old castle for the Alpine accentor. We have also good chance to see Grey woodpecker, Bullfinches, White headed Long-tailed tit, Redwings, Raven. At the aftenoom we will drive to the Hortobágy, where we explore the Hortobágy fishponds. Here we can observe tousands of Common Cranes on the resting place.
If the timing of your return flight allows, we can visit the Great bustard conservation centre in Dévaványa.
