The fishponds and reservoirs in our local area attract tens of thousands of wild geese and ducks every year. During this special tour we are going to visit these valuable habitats and observe the birds.
Day 1:
We will meet you at Budapest Airport and after a two-hour transfer, we will arrive at your accommodation in Túrkeve. If time allows after your arrival, we will take a walk in Túrkeve and the local area around the house. Birds in the garden of your accommodation often include Syrian woodpecker, Fieldfare, Bullfinch, Brambling and Sparrowhawk .
Day 2:
We will visit two big fishpond systems, which are playing a major role in the autumn bird migration. We are going to observe the gathering flocks of ducks and geese. On the fishponds Greylag, Bean and White-fronted geese are swimming in the mixed flocks. On the fishponds Black-nacked Grebe and gulls are swimming alongside the Mallards, Pochards, Ferruginous ducks, Pintail, Wigeon, Gadwall and Showelers. On the drained fishponds the migratory waders can be observed. If we are lucky we will find divers, Red-breasted Goose and White-tailed Eagle as well.
Day 3:
Today we are going to explore the biggest reservoir in our local area. This huge lake is a meeting point for thousands of geese and ducks. Among the ducks we will find Mallards, Pochards, Ferruginous ducks, Pintails, Wigeons, Gadwalls and Showelers. The great flocks of geese mainly consist of Greylag, Bean and White-fronted Geese, but among the flocks of ducks and geese we can usually find rare birds such as: Lesser white-fronted, Red-breasted Geese and Long-tailed Ducks as well. These tens of thousands of geese and ducks are very attractive prey for the White-tailed Eagles and Perigrine. Penduline and Bearded tits can be spotted everywhere in the reedbeds. On the nearby Puszta Hen Harriers, Rough-legged Buzzards and Great Grey Shrikes are looking for prey. In the sky flocks of Common Cranes are flying towards the south. If we are lucky we will see Great Bustards and Whooper Swans too.
Day 4:
Today we will explore the biggest fishpond system in our local area, where we will take delight in the sight of thousands of geese and ducks. During our tour we will observe Greylag, Bean and White-fronted Geese and among these birds if we are lucky we will find Lesser White-fronted and Red-breasted Geese as well. Among the ducks we will find Pochards, Ferruginous and Tufted ducks, Pintails, Wigeons, Goldeneyes and Showelers. With a bit of luck Whooper Swan and Smews can be seen as well. In this area we will meet with White-tailed Eagles, which birds show us spectacular duck hunting. Among these huge raptors sometimes Golden Eagles can be seen as well.
Day 5:
If the timing of return flight allows, we can visit the centre of the local Environmental Conservation Association and see bird-ringing as well.
During our tours we are expected to see 100 different bird species.
