Red-footed Falcon photography

The Red-footed Falcon is one of the most attractive birds of prey in Europe.

During this workshop I will guide you around Túrkeve, where a few Red-footed Falcon colonies are located. In these breeding areas the Falcons are very active at this time of the season: there will be good opportunities for amazing photos with displaying, mating, fighting over nest sights with Kestrels, catching prey.  A trip not to be missed. The main target of this tour will be the Red-Footed Falcon, however we will use my other hides and work in the fields as well.

I will pick you up at the airport and after a 1.5 hours drive, we will arrive at your accommodation the Villa Aquila. After you settle in, depending on the time of your arrival, we will have lunch or dinner in a local restaurant. Then if we have time, we will walk around the town and look for Long-Eared Owls.

Day 2

At dawn we will visit one of the Red-footed Falcon sites near the town of Turkeve where we can take pictures of the birds basking in the first rays of the early morning sun. Around this site you will also have a chance to photograph Lesser Grey Shrike, Kestrels and Jackdaws.

After the midday break we are going to explore the surrounding territories. We will take a jeep safari where we will be able to take pictures of Black Tailed Godwit, Great Reed Warbler and Great White Egret, with a bit of luck we may also observe the first returning Red-Backed Shrike.

Day 3

We will start the day in my Garden Hide in Turkeve. We will mainly see Finches and Tree Sparrows there, however many different species come to the drinking pool including Syrian and Green Woodpeckers.

After a midday siesta we will visit the Woodland Hide, where we will photograph many diffeerent species of woodland birds.

Day 4

At dawn we will visit my Tower Hide constructed with the purpose of monitoring the Red-footed Falcons. Here you can take pictures of the birds enjoying the early morning sunrise. From this hide we can also spot Lesser Grey Shrike, Kestrels, Jackdaws and possibly Little Owls.

After the midday siesta we will visit my orchard, where we will photograph the Wryneck.

Day 5

At dawn we will visit my Hoopoe Hide, where we can take pictures of the birds active in the first golden rays of the morning sun. Here we will also have a chance to photograph Corn Buntings, Brown Hares and Pheasants.

After we stop for midday lunch we are going to visit my Drinking Pool Hide, here we will be able to photograph Hawfinch, Nightingales and also different species of Songbirds.

Day 6

At dawn we will visit my Tower Hide where we can take further pictures of the Red-footed Falcon. They will be very active in the early morning sun catching prey, chasing each other and protecting their nests from other pairs. This is a very busy time for these beautiful Falcons.

After our midday break we will visit the local ricefields here we should see many birds, but in particular we hope to photograph the beautiful Bluethroat.

Day 7

If we have enough time before leaving for the Airport, we will drive to visit a nice oilseed rape field hoping to see Corn Buntings, Yellow Wagtails, Stonechat or a Roe deer between the yellow flowers.

At the end of our Red-footed Falcon photography tour, we would hopefully have taken pictures of Red-footed Falcon, Kestrel, Syrian and Green Woodpecker, Bluethroat, Wryneck, Nightingale and many more wonderful birds and mammals making your trip worthwhile.

We recommend this tour to anybody interested in wildlife photography. During our tour we will mainly use hides but sometimes we work on the fields also. We would ask you to bring Waterproof walking boots as the early morning grass will probably be wet. We will promise you an interesting few days photography in a country with beautiful habitat and wonderful wildlife
